Scalpel to the face

In the wake of modern day beauty standards, new trends seem to bloom on a monthly basis.

I’m sure many of you have heard of Dermaplaning before, and if you haven’t keep reading for the break down!

Dermaplaning is the process of exfoliating the outer most layer of skin and ridding it of fine vellus hairs that we refer to as “peach fuzz”. A trained professional performs the process by using a medical grade scalpel to gently remove tiny vellus hairs and the superficial layer of dead skin.

My Experience

For most of my life, I’ve been extremely hairy. I always thought it was weird to have tiny hairs on my cheeks and forehead, but apparently many other women suffer from it as well.
Not everyone has mustaches or beards lol, but many of us do have peach fuzz in places that aren’t pleasing.

The tiny hairs on my face weren’t visible to everyone else, but you know how something that only you notice can bother you tremendously.

So, I decided to take the leap!

My dermaplaning session was booked with aesthetician @Skincarebyzetaj
Zeta specializes in facials, skin care treatments, dermaplaning and more.
She also has her own skin care line, “Facade” that promotes the multi-step approach to proper skincare.

Before the process began, Zeta explained to me what everything was and how everything would be used. She made sure to ask my what my preferences were for my sideburns and other areas of my face that had alot of hair.

I advised her to take it all!

The Process

The process began with Zeta cleansing my skin with a gentle cleanser. After cleansing and drying, my skin was prepped with solution.

According to Zeta, it’s important for the skin to be completely dry and without moisture.

This is the scary part!….

Of course anyone would be skeptical about someone putting a scalpel that close to their face. I definitely was a bit scared, but she made sure to continue explaining the process to me. The scalpel used is a medical grade scalpel of a certain size & type that’s used specifically for this purpose.

I was relieved to know that it wasn’t the same type of scalpel used in plastic surgery!

I still was a bit nervous not knowing what to expect as for the feeling of having my skin scraped off….ok I’m being dramatic!…but you get the point!

Zeta began holding the tool at an angle and tauting my skin, which is just a fancy way of saying holding the skin tight.

While she was performing the procedure, it pretty much reminded me of what an eyebrow archer feels like on your eyebrows…That’s the feeling.. A very light scratchy feeling.

It wasn’t painful, although there are certain areas of my face that are more sensitive than others, for example, my mouth which felt a little uncomfortable.

When I explained this to Zeta, she was sure to avoid my sensitive areas and focus on other areas of my face.

Each side of the face generally takes 30 mins. or so to do.

The overall process took some time, but the amount of hair I had on my face was surprising!

My Skin was then cleansed and an enzyme mask was applied. Zeta left the mask on for awhile for my skin to absorb the nutrients.

At this point, my skin felt really fresh. No tightness or pain.

After the mask, a gentle serum and moisturizer were applied.

After I looked at myself, I was able to notice a visible difference!

My skin was much brighter, extremely smooth and ridiculously soft.
I personally suffer from hyperpigmentation, however after this process, a few of my spots seemed to be lighter. There was no redness whatsoever.

After my treatment was finished, Zeta went over a plan with me to treat my hyperpigmentation which would include future dermaplaning treatments.

On my way home, I was definitely still worried that my face would break out the next day as my skin is super sensitive and I’ve tried shaving my sideburns before and broke out terribly, but 2 days later, I can proudly say that my skin is FINE! Still soft, still glowy and radiant, and NO BREAKOUTS!!

Is it worth the hype?

Honestly, If you suffer from a hairy face,

I say go for it!

The process was painless and simple and I was left with soft, smooth, glowing skin.

Who wouldn’t want that!…

I still have alot of hyperpigmentation that I have to fight, BUT atleast now I don’t have to be embarrassed by tiny hairs on my face!

I guess certain beauty trends are worth investing in!
